Cramele Recas is a winery in Romania owned by Englishman Philip Cox and his Romanian wife, Elvira.  The vineyards are a combination of historic vines from 1447 and more recent plantings and modern wine-making techniques.  Feteasca Neagra is a dark-skinned grape indigenous to Romania and Moldova.  When translated, it means black maiden and is the most widespread grapes in Romania.

A predominantly spicy nose with black fruits, similar to Pinot Noir but with rich flavours and grippy tannins.  Acidity balances it out with a hint of coffee on the finish.

This is a complex and structured wine, with elegant but discreet fruit flavours of stone fruits, backed up with a powerful tannin structure and long finish. A natural minimal intervention wine which is well balanced and structured yet pure and incredibly fresh.
