Gran Cerdo Tempranillo
This wine has real character – all the juicy elements of Tempranillo. Cherry-red, purplish, brilliant colour with notes of fresh fruit, strawberries, raspberries, cherries and violets with clean mineral tones from the granite, this little natural wine is phenomenal value.
Gran Cerdo Blanco
Blend of Viura and half a dozen other grapes from an experimental vineyard in Rioja. Clean lemony flavours with a hint of butter. Tells a great story on the label too!
Gran Cerdo Rosé
A new addition to the hugely popular range from Spain. Outstanding value natural wine!
Vina Ilusion Rioja
A delicious, gulp-able expression of Rioja: unoaked, it’s full of mixed berries and red fruits it’s juicy and delightful to drink.
Altolandon Enblanco Orange Wine
A very pale orange pink colour, the nose is elegant with sweet aromas of stone fruits, mineral and anise, supported by apricot, mirabelle plum and citrus notes. Full and well rounded on the palate, with plenty of weight, yet still elegant, lively and light in body. Easy to drink.
Bodegas Altolandon Mil Historias Bobal
The winery sits 1100 metres above sea level, inland of Valencia. Organic methods are used to manage the vines and the grapes are vinified as naturally as possible with native yeasts and little other intervention. This Bobal shows distinctive power, vibrant fruit, freshness with soft and ripe tannin. It is spicy and juicy with a well rounded palate with a fascinating crunchy-fruit freshness. The Altolandon vineyards are farmed organically, sustainably and biodynamically.
Celler del Roure Vermell
Owner Pablo Calatayud is committed to nurturing and championing the indigenous varieties of the region, most notably the Mando and Verdil grapes, both of which have been on the edge of extinction.
A rich and fruity style of wine with big red berry flavours, subtle spice, mouth watering acidity, smooth tannins and a long lasting finish. There are lots of dragonflies around the vineyard, hence the label!
Celler del Roure Cullerot
Tucked behind the Serra Grossa, at the top of the Alrorins-Alcusses valley, is the rural idyl of Celler del Roure, an estate developed by Pablo Calatuyud and his father to shine a light on a more ancient and authentic style of Valencian wine and away from the bulk production the area was becoming more recognized for. His intention to rehabilitate long-forgotten grapes such as Mando, Arcos and Verdil was solidified with the discovery of a 500-year-old cellar on the mountainside property, with subterranean clay amphoras ‘tinajas’ in near perfect condition.
Aged in Tinijas shows the fresh and complex flavours of this wine. Ripe tangerines from the Verdil, sweet spice from the PX, balanced with fresh and mouth watering citrus, melon and a touch of biscuit from the Chardonnay and Macabeo. Finishing with a rich and creamy mouth feel that makes this wine a true show case of its style.
Daniel Ramos Vina Padre
A blend of grapes, mainly based on Rufete from Salamanca and Garnacha from Gredos, all small, high altitude, mountainous vineyards (up to 1000m!). Even including some white. As always with Daniel, this is a ‘hand-made’ wine, with no fining or filtration. Simply made in concrete vats and a portion in seasoned, oak.
The resultant wine is fleshy and juicy, with good tannic grip and texture. The flavours are pure and honest, with a real sense of wild, mountainous viticulture. Great freshness through a long finish.
Altolandon Tinto 2012
The unusual blend produces cherries in liqueur aromas typical from the Garnacha and herbal and meaty notes from the French varieties. It needs powerful food, but it’s also ready now.
Maestro Tejero Lovamor Albillo
Lovamor is made with fruit sourced from low-yielding 100-120-year-old Albillo bush-vines grown at 800-1100 metres elevation in the Ribera del Duero. A young orange wine made with the nearly extinct grape Albillo. The colour of farmhouse butter, aromas of russet apples, medlars and pear, with a chalky minerality and slight tannin from the skin contact. A really elegant orange wine that would suit anyone who tries it.
