Barbeito are one of the smallest Madeira Wine producers, only founded in 1946 but have an extraordinary reputation. Ricardo, the founder’s grandson took over in the ‘90’s, reinventing the traditional wines and techniques. He was the first to bottle Madeira wine without adding caramel and has also bottled from a single cask, which was once a traditional way.
Recreating the classic style of Rainwater, medium dry in character. Dried fruit, orange blossom and crystallized fruit aromas with a soft yet full bodied palate and a long minerally finish. An excellent aperitif, but also wonderful with French Onion Soup, Welsh Rarebit, cheeseboard, mushroom dishes, and game terrine.

Aromas of toasted almonds, honey and hints of smoke. Lightly caramelized fruits bring a freshness on the palate. A sweet wine, but with great balancing acidity. This really complements desserts with caramel, dried fruits and toffee.
Barbeito Single Harvest Tinta Negra Madeira

100% cask-aged Tinta Negra from an extraordinary single vineyard in Estreito de Camara de Lobos. The Single Harvest releases always get at least 10 years ageing by the Canteiro method in seasoned, French oak.
A medium dry style showing a lustrous golden colour, with enticing aromas of dried fruits, notes of walnuts, ripe quince, dried flowers, and a little citrus zest. On the palate, it offers delicacy with a refreshing crispness and finely balanced acidity, culminating in an elegant finish.

This iconic Sercial is bone dry. Aromas of dried fruits pine and resin. Mineral and fresh palate, long finish. Excellent as an aperitif, with Oysters, French Onion Soup, Parmesan cheese, sautéed mushrooms. An absolutely superb wine.
Barbeito Boal Single Cask Madeira 2007

The wine has been aged using the canteiro method and produced from the single barrel. It has a lovely, fresh floral aroma, with notes of pine, apricot, ripe citrus, white raisins, caramel, and candied fruit. The sweetness is balanced by a spicy, fresh acidity, with a lingering finish.
The grapes for this wine come from a very special, single-vineyard called Vinha da Torre, located in Campanario, the parish thought to have produced Boal grapes for the longest.
Barbeito Quatro Pipas Bastardo Special Reserva Madeira

The next iteration in Ricardo’s quest to honour and resurrect the almost forgotten Bastardo variety. This wine is a blend of three separate base wines, from different vintages: 2007, 2009, and 2011. Each was made using varying winemaking methods, such as skin contact and volume of barrels for ageing. The age of the wines and the complexity of the resultant blend enabled this to be designated as a Reserva Especial wine.
A fresh bouquet with a hint of tobacco, wood (pine), dried figs, dates and walnuts. This wine reveals much of its character on the palate, where sweetness, acidity and a light spiciness blend in harmony, leading to a polished, long and silky finish.
