This is a 23 hectare family run domaine situated in the small village of Bernouil, close to Chablis. The wines are crisp and mineral and typical of the Chablis region. The soil in the vineyard has a high sand content and has managed to resist phylloxera and avoid the need for grafted rootstocks. This is an intense and mineral driven Chablis at an amazing price.
Mickaël Hardouin runs 21 hectares in Saumur Champigny. He converted to organic farming in 2012 knowing that it required a far more hands on approach in the vineyard, but with the aim of making wines that speak much more about their place. This is the perfect example of how to make Cabernet Franc. Brilliant!
Planted among the estates bee hives and olive trees, the vines are cultivated organically using natural products and minimal sulphur. An aromatic wine, rich in flavour. Characterised by white fruit, grapefruit and floral notes. Pair with Mediterranean food or serve as an aperitif.
Frédéric Guilbaud and Emmanuel Tuffreau have taken it upon themselves to reinvigorate (and in some sense reinvent) Muscadet for the twenty-first century, but staying true to traditional tools and know-how. Based at La Bretonnerie, they have created a range of wines that push boundaries in terms of presentation, ambition, flavour, and where sparkling Perles de Folie is concerned, in a new and audacious direction.
Aromas of citrus fruits, lemon and a fine touch of spice and ginger which follow to the palate. Lime zest and white flowers. This wine is lively, medium-bodied with an attractive underlying mineral touch.
Aged for 15 months in stave oak barrels, three-quarters of which is renewed each year, this wine is full of finesse and elegance, it stands out for its attractive, delicate bouquet and its rich aromas of ripe fruit and toasted almonds. The vineyard grows on a clay-limestone terroir and covers some 6 hectares planted with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Superb notes of white peach, flowers and citrus fruit such as pink grapefruit on the nose. The mouth is fruit packed and fresh, with aromas of white flowers and lemon as well as a pleasantly delicate bitterness. It is a sparkling wine that can be enjoyed as an aperitif but has sufficient character to accompany food.
