£30.00
Add to basket

Claude Marechal makes his wines as naturally as possible, his wines are pure and sleek with vibrant fruit and great potential to age.  These wines are available in very limited quantities but are something you should definitely have in your cellar.  No chemical fertilisers are used and the harvest is hand picked each vintage, Claude says he is usually the last in each appellation to pick which shows on the ripe fruited nature of his wines.  Located in the villages of Bligny and Pommard, the sub-soil is essentially made up of gravel.  The wine can be enjoyed young but will age beautifully for 5 to 10 years.

Chateau Fleur de Lisse Saint Emilion Grand Cru

£32.95
Add to basket

Château de Lisse was one of the largest vineyards in Saint Étienne de Lisse in the early twentieth century. It is one of the oldest vineyards in Saint Émilion, which explains why the average age of the vines is 45 years. From 1940 to 2015 it belonged to the Minvielle family, who over the years made it prosper and modernised the winemaking business by building a vatting cellar. In 2015, the château was acquired by the Teycheney family, who already owned Château La Loubière and, being passionately interested in farming and wine, decided to farm using biodynamic methods.

Its bouquet is perfectly pure and expressive, displaying notes of red berries, cassis and blackberry, and is followed by an ample, smooth and remarkably balanced palate.  The finish is refined, the back-of palate discretely toasty and smoky.  It is the ideal accompaniment for grilled meat, lamb chops or blue cheese over an informal meal.

A project created in 2001 by Gerard Gauby and friends, Mark Walford and Roy Richards. Gerard Gauby was convinced that the old vines at Fenouilledes located on the heights at the foot of the Pyrenees benefited from a cooler climate and had the potential to produce wines of really high quality. At 650 metres above sea level these vines are some of the highest in France.  The wines are renowned for their purity, vitality and indeed character.

Ranked among the greatest wines of France, Vin Jaune is made exclusively from the Savagnin grape variety. Planted on blue Jurassic clays, it matures in oak barrels for 6 years and 3 months, without compensating for the evaporation share of around a third of the volume. A veil of yeast forms on the surface of the wine, and protects it from any oxidation. It is during this long ageing that it acquires its spicy aromas of nuts, almonds or curry.  Drink as an aperitif, or with chicken, fish, strong cheeses or bitter chocolates.

Domaine Philippe Livera Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs

£70.00
Add to basket

This 8.5 hectare domaine was founded in 1920 by the great grandfather of Damien Livera, who currently runs the property. Prior to Damien taking over in 2007, the grapes (from old vines planted in the 50s and 60s) were sold to the large Beaune negociants. However, since 2007, there has been a total regeneration of the domaine – low yields, a strict form of lutte raisonée, no herbicides, manual working of the soils and a total upgrading of the vineyards and a new winery – and a resultant quantum leap in quality.

Very thin topsoils, straight into limestone bedrock gives great tension and minerality. 50% of the vines were planted in 1950 and 50% in 1970. 40% new oak, meaty and plush with flavours of black fruits and licorice.

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape

This is an outstanding wine and a true classic.  Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe has been run by the Brunier family since 1891.  The estate’s vineyards are situated on the famous “Plateau de la Crau”, the stony terrace where there is nothing but “galets roulés”, or rounded stones, as far as the eye can see. This special terroir imparts a highly distinctive minerality to the wines. Vieux Télégraphe is made from predominantly three grape varieties, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre plus Cinsault and Clairette.

The blending is done at the end of June after which the wine is matured in large foudres for 20 months. The red wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered and display tremendous concentration and intense flavours of dark cherry and “garrigue”. The best vintages will age for 20 years and more.

Chateau Angludet Margaux

£85.00
Add to basket

Home to the Sichel family since 1961, Château Angludet is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc, with a history which goes back to the twelfth century. It is named after Bertrand d’Angludet, a knight and lord of the noble residence which stood on this site in 1150.

Since 1758, the vineyard of Château Angludet has retained a configuration down the centuries which is very close to the original, 93 percent of the current surface area having nurtured vines for more than 250 years – exceptional continuity for a vineyard.

Surrounded as it is by Grand Cru Classé properties, Château Angludet would almost certainly have been included in the famous 1855 Classification, had the property not been broken up as part of an inheritance settlement. In an act of faith (given the property’s state of decay) and belief in Angludet’s potential, the Sichel family bought the estate in 1961. Since then, the Sichels have worked tirelessly to restore and, indeed, improve the vineyard and cellars, giving Angludet back the reputation its exceptional terroir deserves.
