Made by Adi Badenhorst in Swartland, this has fast become one of our favourite wines! Why the parrot? As well as making amazing wine, Adi also has a sideline in breeding the endangered Cape Parrot as there are fewer than 1000 left in the wild. Also, some of the proceeds of this wine go to the Cape Parrot trust.
Daniel Ramos Vina Padre

A blend of grapes, mainly based on Rufete from Salamanca and Garnacha from Gredos, all small, high altitude, mountainous vineyards (up to 1000m!). Even including some white. As always with Daniel, this is a ‘hand-made’ wine, with no fining or filtration. Simply made in concrete vats and a portion in seasoned, oak.
The resultant wine is fleshy and juicy, with good tannic grip and texture. The flavours are pure and honest, with a real sense of wild, mountainous viticulture. Great freshness through a long finish.

With it’s sister vineyard Pajzos the Chateau shares winemaking facilities & the famous Rákóczi Cellars at the Sárospatak Castle, the largest & best preserved Renaissance castle in Hungary.
The palate has praline notes at the start interlaced with botrytis, dried figs & honey, next pineapple & apricots. Aged notes from 4 years of ageing in small wooden barrels. A thick, creamy texture with a smooth long finish. Beautiful.

Brilliant mahogany lights up the glass and prepares you for an alluring toasted hazelnut aroma. Made from 100% Palomino aged for 12 years in bota, this is a very silky and fine Oloroso with a luscious feel in the mouth. Orange peel gives a pronounced freshness to complement a backbone of brooding, nutty flavours. On the end the solera comes to the fore leaving a vanilla and cigar box finish which is persistent and long. The perfect accompaniment with game or after a meal with or without cheese.
Rioja Alavesa ‘Letras Minúsculas’

The wine is produced with grapes from plots: Laguilera, Iscorta and La Rueda, they are carefully selected and picked by hand.
A nice big Rioja, dominated by red fruits from the Garnacha along with raspberry and black liqourice from the Tempranillo. Letras Minúsculas is a powerful and complex wine, an explosion of fruit which offers soft tannins, yet firm enough to provide the wine with a good structure. The oak component is subtle and well integrated. Perfect with any meats and cheeses.

On the palate it is very smooth and balanced without being cloyingly sweet. This elegant PX is aged for 5 years in bota and made from 100% Pedro Ximénex. Extremely concentrated and nuanced, an ethereal wine with invigorating yet acidity. The finish is lengthy with a hint of nutmeg and cloves. To be served slightly chilled with pudding or to pass around the table after a meal.

A Vallisto is a person from the valley, specifically from Cafayate Valley. And this project is about expressing the virtues of the truly unique terroirs in and around this beautiful, remote area of Argentina. It is also a rescue mission, giving voice to long-forgotten vineyards and lesser-known grape varieties.
Argentina’s flagship white varietal. Increasingly it is prized as a great partner to Thai and Peruvian cuisine and also as a delicious apéritif. This wine from Vallisto is a modern classic, retaining the scented nuances of Salta – arguably the true home of the grape – but offering pristine freshness in the mouth coupled with delightful length and poise.

Matias Morcos Criolla Chica

The label depicts an ancient, rudimentary method of viticulture where old immigrant vines have essentially grown feral like ‘little trees’. The task of the grape picker becomes precarious and involves erecting wooden ladders for harvesting amidst wayward branches. This can still be seen in some far-flung pockets of eastern Mendoza as well as in Salta in the far north.
This wonderful example of Criolla Chica has a beautiful red berry ripeness with aromas of strawberries and cherries. It is light and soft in the mouth with juicy acidity and a delicious, delicate finish. Best served lightly chilled, it’s a real eye-opener and a great springboard into the lovely Criolla family swimming pool.
Matias Morcos Naranjo Moscatel

This skin contact wine has everything we are looking for – the quirky complexity that can be found from this technique but also, crucially, fresh aromatics and varietal expression. Here’s a wine that will make you smile, with its aromas of candied orange peel and runny honey, and hints of exotic flowers; it almost seems to have a hint of botrytis on the nose. The wine is completely dry with flavours of dried citrus fruits and raisins, medium-bodied and floral on the end.
Utterly delicious. Made from Moscatel Rosado, which it is not officially recognised as such, yet. The wine is indeed a lovely rose pink colour in the glass. Definitely not orange!

In Rioja (Spain) this style would be classed as a ‘Joven’ style, meaning young and un-wooded, but being in the new world and Rutherglen in particular, this wine is lifted to an extra level. A fabulous new world interpretation of a long standing old world variety.
Dense red/purple. Complex with rose petal and dark cherry juice and cranberry aromas with some light cedary wood spices. A balanced palate profile with soft flavours of cherries, dark plums and a backbone of light tannins that extend through to a long and refreshing finish.

Seven Of Hearts Coupe’s Cuvee

The sixth vintage of this release, the 2015 wine is the first to be sourced from the Luminous Hills vineyard in Oregon. Aged in French oak for two years and then fortified with brandy from Pinot Noir grapes, this is ultimately a Pinot Noir. Cantina Terlano is well known in Italian wine drinking circles for producing Italy’s longest lived white wines. Many memorable wines from the 1950s and 1960s, which rank amongst the greatest white wines of the world, were made here. Located in the heart of the Terlan wine-growing region and founded in 1893, it is one of the oldest Alto Adige cooperatives.
On the nose this classic Pinot Bianco scores with crisp notes of pear mingling with aromas of raspberry and lime. Body and balance sum up the Pinot Blanc, with pear and quince aromas combined with a salty minerality. The wine tickles the tongue and goes on to deliver a persistent aftertaste.

Cotes de Bourg is one of the oldest Bordeaux AOCs. It is situated 35 km north-west of Bordeaux on the Right Bank of Garonne and Dordogne rivers around the town Bourg-sur-Gironde. The first “vitis biturica” in Cotes de Bourg were planted by the Romans. The area mainly consists of family farms with less than 10 hectares of vines. Production is mainly red wines, based on Merlot grape, blended with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc.
