Serbal Pinot Noir

£15.50
Add to basket

Slowly but surely, Argentine Pinot Noir starts to be taken seriously, and not only those from Patagonia. This delicious offering from Atamisque’s own Uco Valley vines fits the Serbal ethos perfectly – don’t spoil a lovely young wine with oak! – it is all about fruit and pure varietal character.

There is also an attractive plumpness and texture on the mid palate that you don’t often see in wines in this price range. There’s a way to go before the Argentines are up there with Marlborough et al, perhaps, but this definitely kicks your lower end Burgundy into the long grass. It simply could not be made from anything other than Pinot Noir and you cannot say that about a lot of South American examples.

Moorooduc Estate Pinot Noir

£24.95
Read more

Established in 1982 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc Estate is a small, family run wine business that has developed an enviable reputation for complex and food friendly wines.  Their wines are fermented using only wild yeasts (found on the skin of the grape and in the air) and minimal intervention to allow them to express the character of the individual vineyard sites. The Mornington Peninsula – south of Melbourne – is famed for the quality of their Pinot Noir and this wine is no exception.

Red and black cherry fruit on the nose and palate with a slight savoury undertone on the finish.  Mouth watering acidity, firm tannins and a long lingering finish makes this an outstanding wine. We love it!

Pairs well with any game meats, porcini mushroom risotto & charcuterie.

Made in partnership with Diego Rosso, whose Pinot vines in Tunuyán are amongst the oldest in the Uco, this is clone 777 planted in the 1990s and made with the utmost respect for this most fickle of grapes. Everything is done by hand, with fermentation in a combination of concrete eggs and old barrels, fully de-stemmed with partial whole bunch. 100% of the wine is aged for 10 months in second use French oak.

On the nose, bounteous wild red fruits and the unmistakable whiff of forest floor; in the mouth silky tannins and fresh juicy fruit with a long finish. This is definitely New World Pinot Noir approaching its South American best and sees Argentina taking a seat at the top table. It bodes for amazing things to follow in future.

Domaine Philippe Livera Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs

Add to basket

This 8.5 hectare domaine was founded in 1920 by the great grandfather of Damien Livera, who currently runs the property. Prior to Damien taking over in 2007, the grapes (from old vines planted in the 50s and 60s) were sold to the large Beaune negociants. However, since 2007, there has been a total regeneration of the domaine – low yields, a strict form of lutte raisonée, no herbicides, manual working of the soils and a total upgrading of the vineyards and a new winery – and a resultant quantum leap in quality.

Very thin topsoils, straight into limestone bedrock gives great tension and minerality. 50% of the vines were planted in 1950 and 50% in 1970. 40% new oak, meaty and plush with flavours of black fruits and licorice.
