Chateau Angludet Margaux

Home to the Sichel family since 1961, Château Angludet is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc, with a history which goes back to the twelfth century. It is named after Bertrand d’Angludet, a knight and lord of the noble residence which stood on this site in 1150.

Since 1758, the vineyard of Château Angludet has retained a configuration down the centuries which is very close to the original, 93 percent of the current surface area having nurtured vines for more than 250 years – exceptional continuity for a vineyard.

Surrounded as it is by Grand Cru Classé properties, Château Angludet would almost certainly have been included in the famous 1855 Classification, had the property not been broken up as part of an inheritance settlement. In an act of faith (given the property’s state of decay) and belief in Angludet’s potential, the Sichel family bought the estate in 1961. Since then, the Sichels have worked tirelessly to restore and, indeed, improve the vineyard and cellars, giving Angludet back the reputation its exceptional terroir deserves.

An enormous bottle of Bordeaux from one of Listracs most prominent estates with 17 hectares of vines.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Yves Raymond looks to Merlot and Cabernet Franc, rather than Cabernet Sauvignon as the essence of his wines in order to help them achieve optimum ripeness.  This is a rich and slightly spicy Bordeaux with concentrated tannins.  Very good indeed, drink now or keep for 10-15 years

sorry, these are only available for local delivery or collection.

Valbuena is the purest expression of red wine at Vega Sicilia and is aged over five winters in barrel then bottle, hence the name of the end product: Valbuena 5º.  The crucial first year of ageing takes place in barrel, with 75% French oak and 25% American oak.  In this first stage, the aim is to amplify the wine’s structure, sense of sweetness and density.  The second year of ageing takes place in large wooden vats and, during this stage, it gains elegance, complexity, tension and subtlety.  The 2016 vintage is a floral and elegant wine,  juicy and tasty with focused and clean flavours. A very good vintage that can age for decades – one to keep!

From this iconic Californian vineyard comes possibly its most sought after wine, and from a truly exceptional vintage that will likely rank as one of the all-time greats from this producer. A blend of  73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc rounding out the last 4%, the majority of which has been aged in new American oak. Full-bodied and showing immense power, with incredible concentration that will certainly benefit from extended cellaring, some critics suggesting up to 60 years, though it will still bring pleasure to the drinker even now. In its youth, it shows notes of fresh plum, crème de cassis, black truffle, graphite, chocolate, and chalky minerality, with its firm yet ripe tannins and freshness indicating its ageing ability.

This is the estate’s flagship wine and the pinnacle of Ribera del Duero.  A minimum age of ten years between barrel and bottle, one of the longest ageing processes in the world.  Aromas & flavours of strawberries, autumnal leaves and fresh leather mingle with darker notes of bramble fruit and a hint of blackcurrants, sweet spice and dried chamomile flowers.  Ripe and yet compact tannins lead to a long smooth finish.  A delicious and yet brooding Único that will evolve beautifully.
