Casa Relvas Redondo Tinto
£22.00
Casa Relvas is a family‑run Alentejo estate rooted in five generations of agricultural tradition, with its modern chapter beginning in 1997 when Alexandre Relvas established the project at Herdade de São Miguel in Redondo. The site’s mix of clay and schist soils, surrounded by montado forest, and the warm, dry Alentejo climate provide the foundation for robust, expressive fruit. The winery expanded rapidly from its first plantings in 2001, growing into a significant regional producer while maintaining a strong focus on sustainable farming and the character of the local landscape.
Redondo is the estate’s first DOC release and a clear statement of identity: a blend built around traditional Alentejo varieties such as Aragonez, Trincadeira, Castelão and others. It’s made using a wild, co‑fermentation approach with a small proportion of whole bunches, then aged in a 5,000‑litre foudre. The style is ripe and juicy, mixing dark plummy fruit with brighter red berries and a lift of floral violet. There’s an earthy, clay‑like mineral note, fine but lightly grippy tannin, and enough acidity to keep the finish fresh and uncomplicated—very much “Alentejo in a bottle”.
