Cave de Chaintre Beaujolais Villages, Cuvee Six
£14.95
Cave de Chaintré’s Cuvée 6 Beaujolais‑Villages comes from the southern edge of the Mâconnais, where the cooperative works with growers on limestone‑rich slopes between Chaintré, Chânes and the northern limit of Beaujolais. This is one of the region’s cooler, more elevated zones, giving Gamay a slower, more even ripening than in the warmer central crus. The co‑op itself dates back to the 1920s and has long specialised in clean, fruit‑driven wines made from small hillside parcels, with an emphasis on careful vineyard work and gentle extraction.
Cuvée 6 is a straightforward, well‑made expression of high‑quality Beaujolais‑Villages. It shows bright red cherry, raspberry and a touch of violet, with light tannins, fresh acidity and a smooth, juicy palate that keeps its shape without heaviness. The finish is clean and dry, with a little mineral lift from the limestone soils. It’s an easy, balanced Gamay that reflects its cooler northern Beaujolais origins.
