Claudio Mariotto Freisa Colli Tortonesi Braghé
£19.95
If you could bottle an autumnal woodland stroll when the bramble fruits are in full ripeness and the moisture rises up from the undergrowth, bringing with it scents of wet leaves, mushrooms and earth, well you’d get pretty close to this Freisa from Claudio Mariotto. Juicy raspberries play with sour blackberry notes alongside a violet, floral edge. Beneath the fruit there are some darker flavours too, wet leaves, leather and truffles, all brought together by a smooth, medium body and a surprisingly fresh finish. There’s a welcomed wild edge to this bottle too, thanks to the spontaneous fermentation and low sulphur levels, creating a multi-faceted wine that will pair perfectly with a hearty tomato pasta dish or some grilled red meat.

Description
Claudio Mariotto is the third generation in a family of wine-makers in a small area of southern Piedmont. we’re big fans of the small producers that champion the local grape varieties found nowhere else. Claudio Mariotto is one of these very producers, making wine from two local grapes, Freisa for reds and Timorasso for whites. Not grapes of international fame Mariotto and team don’t try to make wines in an international style, they rather guide their indigenous grape varieties towards their natural best. Powerful, juicy, balanced and incredibly food-friendly, we’re huge fans of the wines of Claudio Mariotto, they’re a testament to why you should step away from the beaten track to discover your next favourite bottles. So pop on your coat and head to the local woodland, or get out the opener and pop a bottle of Freisa.
