Diamantakis Vidiano
£18.95
Diamantakis is a family‑run winery founded in 2007 in Kato Asites, southwest of Heraklion, where the vineyards sit around 450 metres above sea level at the foothills of Mount Psiloritis. The area combines rocky, well‑drained soils with a dry, sunny climate moderated by altitude, giving warm days, cooler nights, and a long growing season that helps retain acidity in Crete’s indigenous varieties. The family has gradually expanded its 15 hectares of vines and built a reputation for precise, modern winemaking rooted in local tradition.
Vidiano is central to their work, planted from the very beginning and treated as the estate’s flagship white. The grape thrives in this inland, elevated part of Heraklion, where the combination of heat and altitude produces ripe fruit with freshness and definition. The winery ferments the wine at low temperatures and matures it briefly on fine lees to enhance texture without masking the grape’s character.
The Vidiano aroma is clean and direct, with quince, pear, citrus and fresh almond. The palate is marked by excellent acidity and a smooth, almost velvety texture, finishing with a clear, persistent aftertaste. It is a well‑balanced expression of Vidiano: ripe but not heavy, fresh but not sharp, and shaped by the estate’s high‑altitude vineyards.
