Domaine Alexandre Chablis Magnum

£55.00

Domaine Alexandre sits in the northernmost part of Burgundy, in the heart of the Chablis region, where Chardonnay has been grown since Roman times. The estate is based in La Chapelle‑Vaupelteigne, just north of the town of Chablis, with vineyards spread across nearby communes including Beines, Lignorelles, and Villy. This area follows the small River Serein, a defining feature of the landscape and the reason early settlers planted vines here. By the 12th century, Cistercian monks from the Abbey of Pontigny had expanded and refined viticulture in the valley, laying the foundations for the region’s reputation. Chablis was officially recognised as an AOC in 1938, confirming the long‑established quality of its Chardonnay.

The geology is central to the identity of both the region and the domaine. The vineyards sit on Jurassic limestone—especially Kimmeridgian marl—formed around 150 million years ago and rich in fossilised oyster shells. This ancient seabed gives Chablis its hallmark mineral profile and the tension that defines the wines. Domaine Alexandre farms these slopes with a focus on environmental responsibility, earning High Environmental Value certification in 2020.

The domaine is a family operation now run by Guy and Olivier Alexandre, continuing three generations of work in the area. Their wines are fermented and aged in enamelled steel tanks to preserve purity and freshness, producing a style that is crisp, dry, and true to the region’s limestone soils. Expect pale gold colour, fresh green apple and lemon aromas, and the classic flinty, mineral edge that marks authentic Chablis.
