Pannonhalma Abbey, Hemina Red
The Benedictine Archabbey of Pannonhalma has been making wines on the Sacred Mount of Pannonhalma since 996AD when Roman settlers first introduced viticulture/viniculture. The Abbey and it’s stunning natural environment is a World Heritage Unesco site. In 2000 in partnership with MKB Bank the winery was rebuilt with state of the art technology within the mountain. Think Harry Potter meets James Bond. Hemina red is an elegant Bordeaux style blend. 8 months in used Hungarian oak barrels.
‘Hemina’ is the monks self determined daily allowance, as pictured whilst playing poker! Silky tannins from the merlot, while the cabernet franc ensures the structure. Fruity, black berries both on the nose and palate. Delicate, rich, round and elegant. Great with grilled dishes, red meats, game, anything delicious with a bit of body.
