Vega Sicilia Unico 2011
£340.00
This is the estate’s flagship wine and the pinnacle of Ribera del Duero. A minimum age of ten years between barrel and bottle, one of the longest ageing processes in the world. Aromas & flavours of strawberries, autumnal leaves and fresh leather mingle with darker notes of bramble fruit and a hint of blackcurrants, sweet spice and dried chamomile flowers. Ripe and yet compact tannins lead to a long smooth finish. A delicious and yet brooding Único that will evolve beautifully.

Description
Vega Sicilia is a legend among Spanish wine producers, established in 1864 at the western end of what is now the Ribera del Duero DO. The flagship, Unico, is Spain’s undisputed equivalent of a first growth, while the more approachable Valbuena 5º is just as sought after. The historic estate went through several changes of ownership before being bought by the Álvarez family in 1982. They have replicated their exacting approach in four other locations, in both Spain and Hungary, while remaining exceptional stewards of Vega Sicilia’s illustrious legacy. Meticulously detailed viticulture feeds into a complex, multi-stage ageing process that gives these wines a vibrancy and integration quite unlike any of their Ribera del Duero peers.
