Restless River Main Road & Dignity Cabernet Sauvignon

£59.95
Add to basket

Restless River is a winery in the small but growing wine region of Hemel-en-Aarde, south of Stellenbosch.  The land farmed has been lived on and worked by the Wessels family since they settled there from Europe in 1760.  Since the winery launched in 2012, the wines have shot to International acclaim.

This is one of the best Cabernet Sauvignon’s around at the moment.  Black and red currants with hints of graphite and tar.  There’s also complex notes of wood, tobacco and cedar.  The terrior is really unique and that is expressed in the wine.   The name, Main Road & Dignity comes from the names of the vineyards that the grapes come from.

Starting in 1859, the Gaja family have become pioneers in wine making for five generations.  As each generation takes over, they bring innovation on top of their heritage; today Giovanni has acquired some of the best vineyards in Barbaresco and Angelo has introduced new methods of higher density planting, green harvesting, shorter macerations and longer corks.

The Ca’Marcanda Magari is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.  Lots of aromas and flavours of black fruits including black cherry, blackberry and liquorice with notes of Mediterranean herbs from both the Cabernet grapes.  A richly flavoured wine with balancing freshness and acidity with refined tannins that give this wine an excellent aging potential.  Drink with roasted red meats, casseroles and even pizza or pasta!

Domaine Philippe Livera Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs

£70.00
Add to basket

This 8.5 hectare domaine was founded in 1920 by the great grandfather of Damien Livera, who currently runs the property. Prior to Damien taking over in 2007, the grapes (from old vines planted in the 50s and 60s) were sold to the large Beaune negociants. However, since 2007, there has been a total regeneration of the domaine – low yields, a strict form of lutte raisonée, no herbicides, manual working of the soils and a total upgrading of the vineyards and a new winery – and a resultant quantum leap in quality.

Very thin topsoils, straight into limestone bedrock gives great tension and minerality. 50% of the vines were planted in 1950 and 50% in 1970. 40% new oak, meaty and plush with flavours of black fruits and licorice.

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape

£74.00
Add to basket

This is an outstanding wine and a true classic.  Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe has been run by the Brunier family since 1891.  The estate’s vineyards are situated on the famous “Plateau de la Crau”, the stony terrace where there is nothing but “galets roulés”, or rounded stones, as far as the eye can see. This special terroir imparts a highly distinctive minerality to the wines. Vieux Télégraphe is made from predominantly three grape varieties, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre plus Cinsault and Clairette.

The blending is done at the end of June after which the wine is matured in large foudres for 20 months. The red wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered and display tremendous concentration and intense flavours of dark cherry and “garrigue”. The best vintages will age for 20 years and more.

Barbeito Quatro Pipas Bastardo Special Reserva

£80.00
Add to basket

The next iteration in Ricardo’s quest to honour and resurrect the almost forgotten Bastardo variety. This wine is a blend of three separate base wines, from different vintages: 2007, 2009, and 2011. Each was made using varying winemaking methods, such as skin contact and volume of barrels for ageing. The age of the wines and the complexity of the resultant blend enabled this to be designated as a Reserva Especial wine.

A fresh bouquet with a hint of tobacco, wood (pine), dried figs, dates and walnuts. This wine reveals much of  its character on the palate, where sweetness, acidity and a light spiciness blend in harmony, leading to a polished, long and silky finish.

Chateau Angludet Margaux

£85.00
Add to basket

Home to the Sichel family since 1961, Château Angludet is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc, with a history which goes back to the twelfth century. It is named after Bertrand d’Angludet, a knight and lord of the noble residence which stood on this site in 1150.

Since 1758, the vineyard of Château Angludet has retained a configuration down the centuries which is very close to the original, 93 percent of the current surface area having nurtured vines for more than 250 years – exceptional continuity for a vineyard.

Surrounded as it is by Grand Cru Classé properties, Château Angludet would almost certainly have been included in the famous 1855 Classification, had the property not been broken up as part of an inheritance settlement. In an act of faith (given the property’s state of decay) and belief in Angludet’s potential, the Sichel family bought the estate in 1961. Since then, the Sichels have worked tirelessly to restore and, indeed, improve the vineyard and cellars, giving Angludet back the reputation its exceptional terroir deserves.

An enormous bottle of Bordeaux from one of Listracs most prominent estates with 17 hectares of vines.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Yves Raymond looks to Merlot and Cabernet Franc, rather than Cabernet Sauvignon as the essence of his wines in order to help them achieve optimum ripeness.  This is a rich and slightly spicy Bordeaux with concentrated tannins.  Very good indeed, drink now or keep for 10-15 years

sorry, these are only available for local delivery or collection.

Vega Sicilia Unico 2011

This is the estate’s flagship wine and the pinnacle of Ribera del Duero.  A minimum age of ten years between barrel and bottle, one of the longest ageing processes in the world.  Aromas & flavours of strawberries, autumnal leaves and fresh leather mingle with darker notes of bramble fruit and a hint of blackcurrants, sweet spice and dried chamomile flowers.  Ripe and yet compact tannins lead to a long smooth finish.  A delicious and yet brooding Único that will evolve beautifully.
