This multi award winning wine is a blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Malbec. This is a big, bold spicy beast of a wine that has more than a whiff of top end Bordeaux and Hermitage about it. Ripe black fruit , liquorice and leather on the nose and palate; the fruit dominates but well balanced acidity and tannin are very much in the mix. A peppery spicy finish is particularly satisfying.

Blank Bottle, BIG
With stunning black fruit, cedar, graphite and sweet peppery spice matched with a cool meatiness to the nose, this is a very drinkable wine – don’t let the name put you off! The fruit is ripe on the palate but doesn’t shout at you, with a gentle hint of green and savoury meaty note and just enough tannins – a great BBQ wine for sure. This year, it’s a blend of 7 vineyards, with neither of the high elevation Ceres vineyards being included due to a fire close by to the sites close to harvest, with a smudge of Cab Franc too.
The wine was born as a fun strike back against the Swartland Revolution, when Rhone blends were suddenly thrust centre stage, and Bordeaux blends of Stellenbosch and all Cab suddenly became ‘uncool’. Pieter thought he would devote some time to the iconic grape variety, and what a great job he’s done.
Famille JM Cazes Saint-Estephe
The Cazes family has been rooted in the Medoc for generations. Most importantly, as the family has grown so has the focus on their quality wine production.
Produced from the younger fruit of Château Les Ormes de Pez. The blend is 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Again, the young fruit delivers a forward, silky style for immediate pleasure, but the classic Saint Estèphe structure is also clearly on show.
Chateau Fleur de Lisse Saint Emilion Grand Cru
Château de Lisse was one of the largest vineyards in Saint Étienne de Lisse in the early twentieth century. From 1940 to 2015 it belonged to the Minvielle family, who over the years made it prosper and modernised the winemaking business by building a vatting cellar. In 2015, the château was acquired by the Teycheney family, who already owned Château La Loubière and, being passionately interested in farming and wine, decided to farm using biodynamic methods.
Its bouquet is perfectly pure and expressive, displaying notes of red berries, cassis and blackberry, and is followed by an ample, smooth and remarkably balanced palate. The finish is refined, the back-of palate discretely toasty and smoky. It is the ideal accompaniment for grilled meat, lamb chops or blue cheese over an informal meal.
